About Russ

Russ had been playing professionally since he was 19. He was in the only American band in Panama while in the service, and later, he went on the road with a band and played country and classic rock, all over the western US and Canada for about 4 years. He then started his own tour band after moving to Reno, Nevada and played cabarets and clubs. When his daughters were born he stopped touring and only played in bands on weekends.

In 2003, he broke the Guinness World Record ™ for marathon drumming by going nonstop for 58 hours. However, in 2007 his record was shattered, and he is ready to retake his title by attempting 120 hours of non-stop drumming! He helps to prepare his body for this amazing task by runng 12-15 miles each week and constantly exercising both physically and mentally. He says that having an audience is essential to what he does as the energy of the crowd helps keep him going!

If you ask him what the most difficult part of the challenge is, he will tell you "midnight to 6 am" because that's when "everything sets in and you know you are ready to crash. Your body knows you should be in bed." Russ lives hour by hour rather than day by day when he attempts this feat and we will be there with him as he breaks the record.

Russ believes that "Life is an adventure as well as a journey!" and his motivation for attempting this amazing feat is to raise awareness and funds for Autism. He knows several families that live with Autism on a day to day basis and is touched by the patience, love and support that they provide.

Russ is also motivated to by reclaiming the record for the United States. He was only able to hold the title for 6 months in 2003 before his record was broken by a gentleman in England. he wants to bring that record back to the U.S.!
